Course Overview

The course is suited to anyone wishing to improve their general computer literacy and become more proficient in using computers and digital devices for professional and personal work. The course addresses the needs of a modern organisation where computers, digital devices, and online media are used to communicate, access information, create documents, and present information.

The training is delivered via a number of high quality online learning environments including video and interactive audiovisual environments. The ACIT online learning portal provides the logical and sequential structure of the course. Students are given access to the learning portal which also provides the means to interact with their trainer, submit work, and receive feedback. Students are awarded the qualification on successful completion of the assessment activities and demonstration of competence in the workplace.

CURRICULUM

Section 1: TECHNOLOGY FUNDAMENTALS

This subject covers workplace health and safety and how personal computers can affect health. The student shall also appreciate how IT systems are found in everyday situations and the uses of information networks within computing. The student shall be aware of some of the environmental and sustainability issues associated with information systems. The subject also covers effective workplace communications

This subject introduces students to the information and communications technology (ICT) skills required to select and install operating system software on to a specific hardware configuration. This includes configuring the operating system to work with a variety of hardware peripherals and types of ICT equipment. The subject also covers how to install or upgrade basic commercial software applications, and reduce the risk of a computer’s operation being affected by spam or destructive software.

Section 2: WEB AND SOCIAL MEDIA

This subject covers both the recommended best practices for crafting new web sites and files using Dreamweaver, the fundamentals of HTML and CSS, and how to ensure clean and accessible code. This subject also introduces students to the world of social media content by showing dozens of ways to promote a company’s brand, increase sales, drive traffic to a site, and engage with customers using two of the hottest social networking venues today, Facebook and Twitter.
