COURSE OVERVIEW

This program teaches the essential professional level skills required for the design and implementation of IP Networks in enterprise, service provider, and carrier environments. This course is offered online and face-to-face at the Gold Coast campus.

Students should learn the essential professional level skills required for the design and implementation of Telecommunications networks. The course covers how to plan and implement secure resilient IP networks and unified communications systems. The program teaches the related technical and professional practice skills that support these activities. Each subject is structured as a stand-alone professional course, covering a specific topic in detail. The program provides a foundation for further study towards higher qualifications in information technology or telecommunications engineering.

The subject covers protocol-independent routing features, load balancing and filter-based forwarding, OSPF, BGP, IP tunneling, and high availability (HA) features. Through demonstrations and hands-on labs, students will gain experience in configuring and monitoring network device operations. This course uses Juniper Networks vSRX Series Services Gateways for the hands-on component, but the lab environment does not preclude the content from being applicable to other hardware platforms.

This subject provides students with MPLS-based virtual private network (VPN) knowledge and configuration examples. The course includes an overview of MPLS concepts such as control and forwarding plane, RSVP Traffic Engineering, LDP, Layer 3 VPNs, next-generation multicast virtual private networks (MVPNs), BGP Layer 2 VPNs, LDP Layer 2 Circuits, and virtual private LAN service (VPLS). This subject also covers Junos operating system-specific implementations of Layer 2 control instances and active interface for VPLS.

Unified Communications is one of the fastest growing segments of the Information Technology and Telecommunications industry and is predicted to be a key driver in the expansion of business network infrastructure and network services. Information Technology professionals with an understanding of how to implement Unified Communications solutions are highly in demand and well placed for an exciting and rewarding career in this dynamic sector. The course covers Asterisk and the environment in which it operates, both in terms of operating system and telephony (traditional and IP) connections.
