COURSE OVERVIEW

The Diploma of Information Technology – Cyber Security & Artificial Intelligence delivers in-depth hands-on practical training in cyber offensive security techniques and countermeasures. The program wraps cyber security skills around the day-to-day tasks of the Azure administrator while preparing students for the role of Cyber Security Operations Analyst. The content is contextualised for Microsoft 365, Microsoft Azure, Perimeter Firewall administration, and Ethical Hacking.  The content also explores new AI threats in the cyber security landscape and new AI tools to defend against current and emerging threats. The program prepares students for the following roles:

  • Microsoft Identity and Access Administrator
  • Microsoft Azure Security Engineer
  • Security Operations Analyst
  • Ethical Hacker

This program is delivered face-to-face and online via live audio video streaming and high-quality online learning environments including  interactive audio-visual environments, and cloud hosted lab environments. It combines live streamed and recorded instructor led theory classes, practical sessions involving small group and individual activities, and eLearning. Some subjects include supervised self-paced tutorial style training. The training makes use of interactive instructional software, computer-based simulations, and virtual environments. Students will be awarded the qualification on successful completion of all the assessment activities in the course.

The program enables students attain industry recognised credentials by providing the relevant training within the curriculum. Successful completion of the program does not on its own entitle a student to the related certification. External certification exams must be passed to obtain the respective certifications. Exam fees will be charged by the certifying authorities. Information about how to obtain these certifications can be requested from the instructor. While students are encouraged to obtain the certifications, these are not required to successfully complete the qualification and be granted the associated academic award

The subject covers the hands-on operation and administration of stateful firewalls with a focus on perimeter firewalls. Students should learn how to design and configure firewall security policies and create DMZ’s. Students will explore and implement a layered defence strategy. The subject involves extensive lab work with enterprise grade firewalls.  Topics include:

This subject provides foundational level knowledge on security, compliance, and identity concepts and related cloud-based Microsoft solutions. The fundamentals of security, compliance, and identity (SCI) across cloud-based and related Microsoft services are discussed and explored. On successful completion students should be able to:

  • Describe the concepts of security, compliance, and Identity
  • Describe the capabilities of Microsoft Azure Active Directory (Azure AD), part of Microsoft Entra
  • Describe the capabilities of Microsoft security solutions
  • Describe the capabilities of Microsoft compliance solutions

Azure Security Technologies covers implementing, managing, and monitoring cyber security in the Azure environment.

The subject examines security for resources in Azure, multi-cloud, and hybrid environments as part of an end-to-end infrastructure.  Students will implement recommended security components and configurations to protect identity & access, data, applications, and networks. Students will gain practical skills in administration of Microsoft Azure and hybrid environments, including compute, network, and storage in Azure, as well as Azure AD.

On completion students should be capable of managing security posture, identifying and remediating vulnerabilities, performing threat modelling, and implementing threat protection. They may also participate in responding to security incidents, and work with architects, administrators, and developers to plan and implement solutions that meet security and compliance requirements.

Python is a programming language that lets you work more quickly and integrate your systems more effectively. Python is developed under an OSI-approved open-source license, making it freely usable and distributable, even for commercial use.

On successful completion students should be able to:

  • Explore the choices available to run Python apps
  • Use the Python interpreter to execute statements and scripts
  • Learn how to declare variables
  • Build a simple Python app that takes input and produces output

This hands-on Ethical Hacking subject provides a deep dive into offensive security techniques used by real-world attackers, with a strong emphasis on defensive awareness and ethical responsibilities. Students will explore the tactics, techniques, and procedures (TTPs) used in modern cyberattacks, including ARP spoofing, traffic interception, crafting custom malware, ransomware mechanics, phishing, and more. Through labs, simulations, and real-world case studies, participants will learn how to uncover vulnerabilities, understand exploit mechanisms, and develop effective countermeasures.

The subject aligns with the CompTIA PenTest+ certification exam objectives.

By the end of the subject, students will possess a solid foundation in ethical hacking principles, offensive cybersecurity, and defensive strategy design—equipping them with the skills necessary to think like an attacker and act as a responsible cybersecurity professional.
